Practice Areas

Family law touches nearly every part of a person’s life at once: finances, parenting, property, and the future. Sasso Guerrero & Henderlite was built by lawyers who understand that because we have families too. Among our staff of attorneys and other support staff, you’ll find everyday people who have been in your position. We raise children. We’ve fostered children. We’ve adopted children. We’ve lost children. When you hire SGH, you’re hiring lawyers who know how to fight to keep your family safe.

Divorce is the foundation of our practice. Rarely is it just the dissolution of a marriage — it is the process that determines what a client’s financial and family life looks like afterward. However, we assist clients with all areas of family law.

Divorce

Divorce brings the widest range of legal questions of any family law matter: how property and debt are divided, how a business or retirement account is valued, what support looks like going forward, and how parenting time is structured if children are involved. A two-year marriage and a twenty-year marriage rarely raise the same issues, and a case involving a shared business or a military pension looks very different from one that doesn’t.

Because divorce so often overlaps with custody, support, and financial disclosure, it anchors how the firm approaches every other family law matter. The firm works through each stage of the process — filing, disclosure, negotiation, and, when necessary, litigation — so that clients understand not just what is happening, but why it matters to the outcome they’re working toward.

Child custody

Custody determines how parents share decision-making authority and time with their children after a separation. Our firm works to establish parenting arrangements that hold up over time, not just through the immediate dispute, addressing decision-making authority, time-sharing schedules, and modifications as a family’s circumstances change.

Child support

Support calculations depend on income, parenting time, and a number of statutory factors that are easy to get wrong without guidance. We help parents understand how support is calculated, when it can be adjusted, and what to do when an existing order no longer reflects reality.

Mediation

Not every family law matter needs to be litigated. Mediation gives couples and co-parents a structured, private setting to resolve disputes over property, support, or parenting time without the cost and unpredictability of a courtroom.

Prenuptial & postnuptial agreements

A prenuptial or postnuptial agreement sets clear expectations for property, debt, and support before a dispute ever arises. Our firm drafts and reviews these agreements to make sure they are enforceable, fair, and built around the specifics of each client’s financial picture.

Adoption

Adoption brings its own legal process, separate from the disputes that define most family law work. Our attorneys guide prospective parents through the filings, consents, and court requirements that finalize a family relationship.

Alimony

Alimony, also known as spousal support, depends on the length of the marriage, each spouse’s earning capacity, and the standard of living established during the marriage. We advise clients on what support may look like, whether they are the one requesting it or responding to a request.

Paternity

Establishing paternity affects custody, support, and parental rights alike. Our firm handles paternity actions for parents who need legal recognition of a parent-child relationship before custody or support can be addressed.

Assisted reproductive technology (ART) law

Families built through surrogacy, egg or sperm donation, and other assisted reproductive methods face legal questions that traditional family law doesn’t always anticipate. We work through parentage agreements and related filings so that legal parenthood is established clearly from the start.
